1.1) What is an attachment??
Many people like to send files such as videoclips or pictures as attachments to their Emails. The contents of these files cannot be incorporated in the e-mail message because they contain control codes that only your computer can read. They must be sent as attachments. Electronic mail packages use protocols to encode (send) and decode (receive) these binary files.
It is easy to both send and save to disk attachments in Windows or Mac-based software such as Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail and others, because of the graphical interface.

1.2) How do I send an attachment?
First begin composing your e-mail like you normally do. Before you
send the mail, click on MESSAGE --> ATTACH FILE, and then select
the file you wish to attach to the Email. You will have to find out
where this feature is located. Generally it will be under a
Message menu or it will be under an Insert menu.

2.1) Send an attachment with YAHOO MAIL
- You can attach any file to an email message, and you can attach any file to an email message you write in your Yahoo Mail account.
- While composing a message, follow the Edit Attachments link at the bottom of the page. In the pop-up window, select Browse to select the file you want to attach on your computer.
- Next, choose Attach File. Yahoo Mail now grabs the file from your computer and attaches it to the message you are currently composing.
- Additionally, every file you attach is scanned for known viruses automatically.
- To add more files, select them via Browse and attach them with Attach File.
- Eventually, select Done to close the attachments window and return to the message composition page.

2.2) Send an attachment with OUTLOOK EXPRESS
When sending an e-mail in Outlook Express, you have many added features and options. When sending an e-mail in Outlook Express, you have many added features and options. One of these is the ability to send and receive attachments.
Sending Attachments
- The first thing to do is to have Outlook Express open, and be working on an e-mail.
- As usual, fill out the TO:, SUBJECT, and the message body. When you are done composing the message, follow the steps below to attach a file.
- Look for the "Paper Clip" Icon and/or the word "Add Attachments" on the toolbar. If you do not see this icon, go to the top most menu toolbar and click MESSAGE -> ADD ATTACHMENTS.
- A window should come up that shows a directory on your computer. It is now time to find the file you want to send as an attachment. Go through your hard drive and when you find the file double click on it. Keep in mind that you can send more then one attachment, but there is a 3 MB limit on the size of these files. When finished click DONE.
- Once you have selected the files you want to send, their file name should show up in a new field in the message header.
- You are now ready to send the message, click SEND NOW .
- First thing is to have Outlook Express open, and to be looking at the folder with the new mail. Most likely this folder is going to be the INBOX.
- Once you are in the folder that contains the new mail, click on the message. If it has an attachment, there should be a tiny paperclip icon next to the message. Outlook Express, by default, should auto-preview any attachment that is an the image in under the message body. This setting only takes effect when Preview Pane is on.
- You can save the attachment to disk simply by clicking on the triangle next to Attachments on the message header. A drop down window will appear that shows the name or names of the attachments. Highlight the ones you would like tosave and choose SAVE.
- Next is to select the directory where you want to store the attachments. This is done through the dialog box at the very top.
- Remember the directory you chose, and then click SAVE. The attachment is now saved on the computer.

2.3) Send an attachment with EUDORA
Sending an Attachment
- Create a new message and compose it just as you would any other message.
- Choose Message -> Attach File to New Message (Mac: Message -> Attach Document) or click the Attach button on the toolbar.
- The "Attach File" window appears. Locate the file you wish to attach (e.g., c:\docs\carval1.mpg or h:\jdoe\carval1.mpg) and select it. (Note: you may need to click the down arrow in the "Look In" field to findthe appropriate drive/directory) (Mac: Choose the appropriate folder).
- Click the Open button to select the file. NOTE: the attachment isn't actually "attached" until the message is sent. You will only see a reference to the attachment. You should verify that the "Attached" field in the header of the message contains the pathname of the attachment (e.g., c:\docs\carval1.mpg).
- Click Send/Queue to send the message with the attachment.
- Your Out mailbox will display a paperclip icon next to any messages you have sent with an attachment. (Mac: the icon is a piece of paper instead of a paper clip) >
- Eudora lets you know when a message you have received has an attachment by placing a paperclip icon (Mac: piece of paper) next to the message in your In mailbox.
- When you receive an attachment in Eudora, it is saved in your Attach directory. This is usually c:\program files\qualcomm\eudora pro\attach or h:\eudora\attach (Mac: System Folder -> Eudora Folder -> Attachments Folder) unless you have specified a different directory. You can open the attachment from the Eudora message or from the attachment directory.
- Open the message with the attachment.
- Double-click on the attachment. You may be asked to choose which application you would like to use to open the attachment. If so, choose the appropriate application.
- The application will open and display the attachment.

2.4) Send an attachment with PEGASUS MAIL
- Click on the SEND MAIL icon in the Button Panel or go to the FILE pulldown menu and choose NEW MESSAGE
- A standard mail message format will appear on screen. Fill in the necessary fields
- In the TO: field, type in the email address of the person to whom you are sending the message.
- Click on the Subject field and type in your subject ie. what the message is about
- Click on the big box and type in your message
- Click on the ATTACH icon on the left hand side of the message to attach a document you have prepared ie. either a wordprocessing document, a spreadsheet or database file. You will see a new window.
- First go to the Directories section, and find the directory in which your file is saved. Double click on a: if your file is on the stiffy drive. Double click on the [..] to move up a directory to find the correct directory on your c: drive.
- Now look under the Files section. Highlight the file you want to send with one click.
- Click on the down arrow next to FILE TYPE. You can choose the kind of file you are sending ie. MS WORD
- If you are sending a text or ASCII file, click on the down arrow under ENCODING and choose no encoding.
- If you are sending a wordprocessed or any other file, leave encoding as MAILER DECIDES.
- Now click on the ADD button at the top of the window.
- The file name will jump into the window and will be attached to the message.
- Click on the SEND icon on the left hand side of the message.
- To send your message, click on the FILE pulldown menu and choose SEND ALL QUEUED MAIL.

2.5) with NETSCAPE MESSENGER
- Load Messenger Mailbox.
- Open up a new E-Mail message.
- You will notice the paper-clip Icon that says Attach. Click on this button.
- Selecting the File... option will allow you to find a file on your computer and attach it to your E-Mail message.A miniature Windows Explorer will pop-up and you will need to Navigate through your computer system until you find the file. Once you do, double-click on the file and it will be attached to your message.
- Selecting Web Page will bring up a text box that asks for the URL of the web page.
- My Address Book Card will attach the your Address Book Card
- In the To: field you must give the email address of the recipient, then click Send.

2.6) Send an attachment with MSN HOTMAIL
You can send and receive as many files as you want in a message - up to 1MB (1024K) including attachments. Or, for a yearly fee (plus applicable taxes), you can purchase Hotmail Extra Storage which gives you 10MB of storage space and the ability to send larger attachments (up to 1.5MB).
- MSN Hotmail accounts also benefit from McAfee VirusScan. Whenever you receive attachments in your MSN Hotmail account, it will automatically scan them with McAfee's popular VirusScan before downloading.
- MSN Hotmail also recently added the ability to have your attachments scanned before you attach them to your outgoing e-mail. So before you upload a file to send to another user, it will also be scanned for viruses before you send it, reducing the spread of viruses to MSN Hotmail users and the other recipients of your e-mail.
- Attachments sent to your MSN Hotmail account can be downloaded to your personal computer by clicking them and saving them on your hard drive. GIF and JPEG images and HTML files are automatically displayed in the browser window.

2.7) with KAUFMAN MAIL WARRIOR:
- Click on the NEW MAIL icon in the Button Panel or go to the MESSAGE pulldown menu and choose NEW MESSAGE or press Ctrl+N.
- A standard mail message format will appear on screen. Fill in the necessary fields
- In the TO: field, type in the email address of the person to whom you are sending the message.
- Click on the Subject field and type in your subject ie. what the message is about
- Click on the big box and type in your message
- Click on the ATTACH icon in the Button Panel (a piece of white paper with a paperclipattached on it) to attach the file you have prepared. You will see the file location window pop up.
- First go to the Directories section, and find the directory in which your file is saved. Double click on a: if your file is on the stiffy drive. Double click on the [directory] to go to that directory to find (locate) the file.
- Now look under the Files section. Highlight the file you want to send with a double click.
- If you only clicked ONCE, click on the OPEN button.
- The file name will jump into the window and will be attached to the message.
- Click on the SEND icon (your message AND attachment will be sent.
